Experiential planning & cultural adaptation
Exhibit experiences must adapt for regional audiences, including language, messaging hierarchy, and interaction style. The biggest risk at international shows is a failure to understand local market rules and conventions, for example:
- Shell scheme regulations differ significantly from U.S. standards: in Europe, booth sides can run the full height of the structure to the aisle, creating three solid walls in a standard space, which is not permitted in the U.S.
- Raised floors are standard practice at many European fairs, not a premium upgrade. U.S. exhibitors who do not anticipate this arrive unprepared.
Timeline & complexity
International shows require longer planning timelines due to partner coordination, local approvals, and, where shipping is involved, customs and crating requirements.
Technology & power standards
Electrical standards and AV requirements vary internationally. Voltage differences, outlet configurations, and content delivery systems must all be planned for before fabrication begins.
